Put Your Financial House in Order Before the Order Comes

Preparing for deployment involves more than packing your bags. Since you can’t predict when you’ll be called to serve, ensure you and your household are mission-ready. Create a comprehensive deployment readiness plan and consider the following areas:

Put It In Writing – Clearly outline financial or legal matters in an estate plan.

Have a Back-Up – Contact your financial service providers before adding your spouse or a trusted friend or relative to handle your financial obligations.

Insure Peace of Mind - Give your loved ones a financial security blanket. Life insurance protection recommendation - seven to ten times your annual income.

Protect Your Property - If your home will be unoccupied during deployment, notify your insurance company, have a relative or friend secure and protect your property, or store your valuables in a commercial storage facility. If your vehicle will be properly stored, you may be able to reduce your coverage depending on where you live.

Take Inventory - Make copies of crucial documents and store them in a safe deposit box that you and the person you designate can access.
